If you want your car to be reasonably reliable you will need to restore it to a very high standard.  Pre-war cars were not notably reliable in their day, at least not by modern standards, and although modern materials can help in this direction, it is no use expecting your car to perform over long periods without regular maintenance.

I have considerable experience in running and overhauling pre-war MG cars, and other pre-war models, as well as post war MG's up to and including those built in the 1980's.  This experience I am only too willing to pass on, so PLEASE ask if you have any specific problems with which you need help, and I will try to answer your questions as quickly as possible.

I was for many years employed by the MG Car Co, and its successors, as an engineer responsible for keeping production cars within strict emission control standards, and among the many courses I attended were those with Lucas and the SU companies on engine tuning in all its aspects, including hands-on experience.

As a result of all this, it was with pride that I always started races and other competitions with an engine running near its optimum performance level, and only experienced three DNF results in forty years competing.

If you want to improve the performance of your car, I can therefore offer an advisory service based on over fifty years experience using these cars for all purposes.

Advice carried out remotely is free, but if you require more detailed advice, consultation here at Newbury or written instructions, I will charge for this based on £100 per half-day (four hours).
